Never run out. Always know what you can make.

Benchtop is inventory built for makers. It tracks your raw materials, warns you before you run low, and shows exactly how many of each product you can make right now. Whether you make ahead in batches or make to order, your materials come off automatically and your Shopify stock stays in sync, with no double entry.

You make what you sell. That is the hard part to track.

Wax arrives in ten pound bags. Jars arrive by the case. You turn raw materials into finished products, so you are tracking two things at once: what you have on the shelf to make with, and what you have made.

Most makers find out they are low on something halfway through a batch, or cannot say how many more they can make without counting jars by hand. Benchtop keeps both in view, and updates your Shopify stock the moment you finish a batch.

How it works

Three steps, then it runs in the background. There is a full step by step setup guide if you want to see exactly what is involved.

1

Add your materials

Wax, wicks, jars, oils, labels. Anything a batch uses up, along with what you actually paid for it.

2

Build a recipe

Tell Benchtop what goes into one unit and how much. Now it knows how many you can make from your materials, and what each one costs you.

3

Log a batch

Your materials come off the shelf and your Shopify stock goes up, ready to sell. Nothing to re-enter by hand.

Prefer to make to order? Set a product to deduct when it sells, and its materials come off automatically with every order, with no batch to log. Cancel or refund one and they go right back on the shelf.

Why it is different

Built for makers, not resellers

Benchtop draws down materials the moment you actually use them, whether that is when you make a batch ahead of time or when an order comes in. You choose per product, so nothing gets counted twice.

It lives inside Shopify

No separate system to log into and nothing to export. It runs in your admin, next to everything else you already use.

Questions

Who is this for?

Anyone who makes what they sell. Candles, soap, cosmetics, baked goods, jewelry, ceramics, resin, and plenty of things we have not thought of.

Do I need to understand accounting?

No. You enter what you paid for your materials and what goes into each product. Benchtop does the arithmetic and shows you the number.

What happens when a customer buys something?

It depends how you make it. For products you make ahead, Shopify reduces your finished stock and the materials were already counted when you made the batch. For made-to-order products, Benchtop draws down the raw materials automatically when the order comes in, and puts them back if it is cancelled or refunded. Either way, nothing is counted twice.

Can it deduct materials when I sell, instead of when I make?

Yes. Set any product to make to order and Benchtop deducts its materials the moment it sells, with no batch to log. Make-to-stock and made-to-order products can sit side by side, chosen per product.

What if I already track this in a spreadsheet?

Then you already know the tedious part. Benchtop keeps the same numbers up to date without you remembering to open the sheet.
